We have been told to wash our hands our whole life, from childhood to adulthood.
Did you ever ask why? Are you aware why?
Please read some of the facts presented below from a university study.
The facts are very sad: one in five people do not wash his hands and those who do, 70% of them do not use soap.
Not everyone is aware that a bad hand hygiene routine is responsible for the spread of 80% of common infectious diseases while proper hand washing remains one of the easiest and cheapest ways to prevent the spread of bacteria.
Every day in Ireland, hundreds of people get sick because of healthcare-associated infections.
These infections can cause serious illness and sometimes even death. Now, when we are facing Covid-19, washing our hands is more important than ever.
So, how to wash them properly?

So, how to wash them properly?

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends at least 20 seconds of hands washing, using the following steps:

1. Wet hands with warm water
2. Apply single shot of soap
3. Rub your hands together palm to palm
4. Rub back of each hand with the palm of other hand with fingers spread so you can wash
between fingers
5. Rub palm to palm with fingers interlaced
6. Rub with backs of fingers to opposing palms with fingers interlocked
7. Rub each thumb clasped in opposite hand using rotational movement
8. Rub tips of fingers in opposite palm in circular motion
9. Rub each wrist with opposite hand
10. Rinse hands with water
11. Dry thoroughly your hands with a clean or paper towel
If you have dry skin or a skin condition, apply moisturiser after washing your hands and at night. Please see below a simple WHO poster which demonstrates the right steps for proper handwashing and suggests the best way to obtain safer hand-drying.

Proper handwashing may look intimidating, but once you learn it hand washing is simple and essential.
We recommend using MAXPRO DEZ4SOAP, a hygienic hand washing and disinfecting soap which meets all criteria to keep your handsclean at high standards.
When water is not available, you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to kill common bacteria.
We recommend using MAXPRO DEZ4HAND, a hygienic hand disinfecting gel with anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-virus properties which contains 70% alcohol and thanks to other ingredients it keeps your hands hydrated and not irritated and leave a long-lasting fragrance.
Developing a good hand washing technique is imperative to ensure hands are thoroughly clean. Particular attention should be paid to the backs of the hands and fingertips as these are frequently missed. The image below shows the most frequently missed parts of the hands when the proper washing techniques are not adopted.
